Festive fun – ideas to get you in the festive spirit

The countdown to the festive season has officially begun! Whether you’ve opted for a traditional chocolate advent calendar or treated yourself to a beauty one, the days leading up to the festive period are the perfect time to get into the spirit of things.

Here at Damart, we love the party season, which is why we’ve put together some festive fun ideas to get you full of the season’s cheer!

Christmas light trail

Christmas light trails are only getting bigger and better and there’s no shortage of amazing places to see them. Perfect for all the family, they’re a great way to get into the festive spirit. Many winter light trails take place at English Heritage and National Trust properties, meaning they are usually in beautiful surroundings. And of course, London Christmas lights are worth a trip to the capital too. Because Christmas light trails are held outdoors, you’ll want to wrap up warm in a chunky knit jumper. We particularly love an oversized turtleneck jumper for added warmth and fashion credentials. Wear with skinny jeans, a pair of sturdy ankle boots and, because this is Britain, a waterproof coat might be a good idea too!

Weekend getaway

If your holidays are jam-packed, then taking a few days away to enjoy a winter break might be just the R&R you need. Whether you’re a fan of a city break or prefer a long weekend in the country, there’s no shortage of great places to stay at and unwind.

Just remember to plan to help give you an idea of what to pack. If walks in the countryside and pub lunches spent sitting by a fire are high on the agenda, then packing clothes that can be layered are essential – as is a good thermal vest. Our range of fashionable and, most importantly, functional thermals are designed for those colder days. Using high-quality materials that feel soft on the skin, they add an extra layer of warmth without adding bulk, ideal for adding under jumpers and coats.

Christmas movie advent

Who wants to venture out on cold, dark nights? Not us, that’s for sure! Instead, why not make advent into a Christmas movie marathon this year? Each night, snuggle up in your favourite pyjamas and pop on a festive classic. Whether you consider Die Hard a Christmas film or you controversially prefer Home Alone 2 to the original, it’s your advent – your rules!

Switch on the Christmas tree lights, light a winter-scented candle, and enjoy a festive treat like a hot chocolate and mince pie and get into the festive spirit. You can create a traditional advent calendar and have a film title behind each door or write the name of a Christmas movie down and add to a hat to draw one out at random each night.

Go to the theatre

Support the arts with a trip to the theatre. Whether you opt to go see a production of the Nutcracker or you take the whole family to the panto, make an occasion of it. A shirt dress is the perfect combination of smart-casual for such an event. Or, if you want to really add the glitz and glamour the festive season deserves, throw on your favourite embellished top and pair with a midi-skirt or sleek trousers.

Keep the look current, modern and winter-approved with a pair of boots. We love ankle boots because of how versatile they are: they can be worn effortlessly with jeans and trousers, as well as skirts and dresses.

Get crafty

Is there anything more fun and festive than putting up the decorations? Well, what about making them? On a crisp wintery weekend, why not go foraging for some winter foliage like pinecones, holly and ivy, branches from pine and yew trees and then grab a wire coat hanger (or buy a wire frame) and create your very own wreath.

You can also create garlands from pom poms or origami-inspired shapes, and if you’re handy with a sewing machine, you could even sew your own fabric baubles.

Create a Christmas Eve box

Celebrate the most magical night of the year by creating a Christmas Eve box. Pack it full of your favourite winter activities for an action-packed day that’s sure to tire everyone out and ensuring no one wakes up whilst Santa is delivering his presents.

We love adding a fresh set of Christmas pyjamas and a Christmas book or film the whole family will enjoy. In fact, this year we’ve got our hearts set on the novel A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig, now made into a movie.

Activities can include making (or just decorating) a gingerbread house, going on a woodland walk, or maybe even going ice skating.
