Summer holiday essentials

Summer holiday essentials

Holidays are back and we couldn’t be more excited! Whether you’re looking forward to a romantic city break with your better half or you’re going on a long-haul trip of a lifetime with all the family, we’ve got the essential summer holiday packing list.

Essential bits and pieces

Passport

Top of our holiday essential bits and pieces list is the passport. It’s no secret that Brits love to get away for some much-needed sunshine, so it will come as no surprise that Spain tops our holiday destination list. But, a word of caution, you’ll need to check your passport has at least six months until its expiry before you travel. With passport renewals taking around 10 weeks, there’s no time like the present to start planning and prepping for your holiday.

Travel insurance

Even if you’re not planning a trip abroad, you should consider getting travel insurance. If you need to cancel or cut short your trip because of reasons out of your control, or if you encounter a medical or other emergency, your insurance will help cover the costs.

COVID passport/tests

While the majority of countries have removed their COVID travel restrictions, there are still some popular destinations where negative PCR tests are required. Before you go, you should download your COVID passport and check if you need to complete any tests or fill out any forms.

Tickets and passes

It might sound obvious, but before you head off on your long-awaited summer break, make sure you have your tickets and passes. Most tickets are electronic, so it’s always worth downloading them to your device so you can access them without using the internet. If possible, print them off so you have a physical copy too.

Currency

We may be operating as a virtually cashless society but exchanging a few hundred pounds of local currency in a variety of note sizes before you go should be high on your last-minute errands list. You should also make sure you inform your bank if you’re going abroad, but remember every time you use your credit or debit card, you may be charged a fee.

Emergency contact details

Have your emergency contact clearly labelled in your phone. A top travel tip is to save their details as your lock screen so that they can be contacted without delay should you become incapacitated.

Electronic devices

With us relying on technology so much, packing your devices, charging cables and adapters is a must. Don’t forget to pack rechargeable batteries when you’re out and about. If you’re heading into the wilderness, consider investing in a solar-powered battery pack.

Medication

Remember to pack any regular medication and a first aid kit just in case. It should include things like mosquito spray, sting relief gel, and even some cooling spray as relief for heat stroke.

House keys!

It might sound obvious, but if you’re running behind schedule, it can be easy to get so swept up in leaving that you end up forgetting your house keys! The day before you leave, make sure your neighbours or friends have a set of spare keys.

Copies of important information

Copies of all your important information should be on your holiday essentials list! This should include an itinerary, travel details, the name and address of where you’re staying, and insurance details.

The packing list

Clothing

When it comes to summer holiday packing lists, we know a thing or two about what clothes and accessories you need. If you’re travelling by plane, train, or automobile, you’ll want to pick something that’s not only comfy, but doesn’t crease easily.

You should avoid linen when travelling and instead opt for athleisure wear. Damart Sport is packed full of comfy clothes perfect for long journeys. We love leggings that can be worn with a nice top and sandals for relaxed evenings in the bar. The soft, breathable fabrics keep you cool when stepping off a plane or out of a hot car.

One of our top summer holiday packing tips is to invest in separates that work well together. Choose pieces that are a similar tone or palette, like navy blues and greens or creams and camels. Pack plain vest tops and t-shirts and layer a shirt or blouse over the top for a laid-back look, or wear button-down dresses undone over a tank and shorts for casual pool style.

Our Climatyl range of summer clothes has been specifically designed for hot summers. Wear our wide-leg jeans for dinners out and pop on your favourite pair of comfy wedge sandals for a truly chic look. Or throw on an oversized shirt over one of our flattering swimsuits for a stylish beach day silhouette.

When it comes to shoes, you’ll want to travel in your comfy trainers. We love shapes that can be worn with shorts as well as dresses, helping to save space in the suitcase. For relaxed beach holidays, you can’t beat a pair of flip-flops. If you’re planning on evenings out, then a pair of heeled wedges provides a style that goes with anything.

And don’t forget to pack your nightwear. Because you never know what the nighttime temperature will be, we recommend packing lightweight pyjamas or nightdresses. Keeping you warm without overheating, they’re the perfect companion to sun-warmed skin.

Accessories

Complete your look with our holiday essential accessories. A scarf is a must for travelling and can double up as a beach or pool cover, while sunglasses are an essential item any time of the year.

If you’re sticking to plain tops, you can add interest to any outfit with a statement necklace or earrings – just remember to never wear them together.
