October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re proud to be getting involved in the campaign with our Pink Vest, helping to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now.
For more than 15 years we have supported leading charity, Breast Cancer Now, with sales our thermal Pink Vest. £5 from the sale of each Damart Pink Vest is donated to the charity to make life-saving research happen.
One in seven women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. This year, our Pink Vest campaign featured five inspiring women who have all been personally affected by breast cancer.
Our very own Karen, who has worked at Damart for six years, was one of our wonderful models. She drew upon her personal experience of breast cancer and featured in a video to share her experience of taking part in this campaign. The photography of our models will feature in our catalogues as well as on our website, making Karen the first colleague to ever feature in a Damart catalogue! Alongside Karen were four other inspiring women, Melanie, Karen, Emma and Lesley, all of whom are members of Bosom Friends, a support group based in West Yorkshire for those affected by breast cancer
Along with modelling the pink vest, each of the five women shared their stories of detection, diagnosis and treatment, with a strong emphasis on being breast aware to support Breast Cancer Now’s TLC message: touch, look, check. Each of their stories show the importance of routinely checking for any lumps or changes in your breasts to help detect any symptoms of breast cancer.
Claire Brown, our Online Merchandise Manager, shared her thoughts on the photoshoot: “It was so inspiring to work alongside five women who were so open, sharing their personal stories of breast cancer to help raise awareness. It really highlighted the importance of being aware of the symptoms, something I hope our colleagues, friends and customers can take away from this campaign. We are really proud to have Karen feature in the campaign, the first Damart colleague to take part in a shoot like this.”
