With Yorkshire ready and eagerly awaiting the first leg of the Tour De France next weekend, staff at our Bingley and Steeton offices have been getting into the spirit of the event with a day-long ‘spin-a-thon’ in aid of a charity close to our hearts.

For the past seven years, we have been been finding new ways of raising money for Yorkshire-based national charity Heart Research UK, and this week we’re getting in gear and giving our hearts a workout as well.

In the run up to the Tour de France Grand Départ, staff at both our headquarters in Bingley and our distribution centre in Steeton will take it in turns to attempt to cycle all day on a stationary exercise bike in order to raise as much money as possible whilst paying tribute to the great endurance of the cyclists who are soon to take on the 391km route around Yorkshire.

Our Marketing and Ecommerce Director, Phil Anderson said: “Heart Research UK is a fantastic charity that we are proud to support. I think the spin-a-thon is a great way for our staff to have fun, get active, and most importantly give to a charity that helps transform the lives of those affected by heart disease.”

Barbara Harpham, the national director of Heart Research UK, said: “To have Damart’s support is fabulous. Heart disease touches so many lives, some people are born with it and others develop it later in life, often through making unhealthy life choices. In fact around 100,000 people have heart attacks in the UK every year and 2.3 million people live with coronary heart disease every day.

“The money raised through Damart’s hard work will help fund our Helping Little Hearts campaign to improve rehabilitation for youngsters who have undergone heart surgery or are living with a congenital heart condition. Adults are offered rehabilitation when they have had heart problems but this rarely happens with children. We aim to help them leave hospital with their own personal exercise “prescription” giving them the confidence to keep as fit and healthy as they can.”
