How to create more sustainable habits

Living sustainably is now more important than ever. But it doesn’t have to mean a total overhaul of your life. With just a few small changes, you can have a massive impact on the world around you. At Damart, we’re here to make sustainable eco-friendly habits even easier.

Save energy

As we increasingly rely on technology, we’re using more energy than ever, but there are a number of ways you can save energy at home. These methods will not only help the planet but also cut your energy bills.

Instead of leaving items on standby, switch power off at the plug and turn off lights in rooms you’re not using. Hanging clothes up to dry instead of using a dryer will not only help save energy, but it’ll make your clothes smell fresher.

And it’s not just our appliances that can help us reduce our consumption. Wearing a thermal vest or a snuggly jumper means you can turn your heating down. Our Thermolactyl range has been specially designed to lock in body heat, helping you stay warm and cosy, even on the coldest of days. Likewise, our collection of jumpers and cardigans is a fashion-forward way for you to stay warm.

Even choosing just one of these sustainable habits is something you can do today to cut down your energy consumption and reduce your carbon emissions.

Try meat-free Mondays

Meat production is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, polluting landscapes and waterways around the world. Having at least one plant-based day a week can have a significant impact on the levels of pollution caused by the meat industry. Not only that, eating meat no more than three times a week can help reduce your risk of heart disease.

Embracing just one meat-free meal can also be a way to get adventurous in the kitchen. We love trying new recipes and flavour combinations. You may find that you don’t even miss the meat, and perhaps you’ll even increase your plant-based meals throughout the week.

Meat-free Mondays are a simple, sustainable eating habit that anyone can get involved with. There’s no shortage of amazing vegetarian and vegan recipes to explore.

Buy less – buy better

We know the fashion industry is one of the main polluting industries in the world, which is why Damart is continuously looking to reduce environmental impact. Our new (Re)generation collection is part of our ongoing sustainable fashion project. This sustainable clothing range is made from soft organic cotton and recycled fabric to help you create an eco-friendlier wardrobe.

A simple way you can lessen your environmental impact is buying more clothes from charity shops, ‘shopping your wardrobe’, and donating any clothes you no longer wear.

Reusable alternatives

Single-use products are packing our landfills and can take thousands of years to disintegrate, if at all. Affecting local wildlife and sea life, these often-plastic products can be easily replaced by reusable alternatives.

If you get your morning coffee from a local café, take your own flask or travel mug. For shopping, keep spare reusable bags in your car or close to your back door so you don’t forget them. And, of course, a reusable water bottle is a must-have to avoid buying countless plastic receptacles.

Grow your own produce

For an eco-friendly habit that’s good for your health, the environment, and your wallet, get out in your garden or find a local allotment to grow your own produce. Now is the perfect time to prepare your veg patch.

Growing your own ingredients has several benefits, providing you with fresh, pesticide-free food while reducing your environmental impact and improving your mental health through time in the open air.

A fleece and a pair of jeans are perfect for gardening. Keeping you warm without overheating, they’ll provide you with a bit of protection while also giving you enough flexibility to move around freely. We have a range of fleeces to choose from, from smarter sherpa jackets to patterned zip fleeces. When choosing the right jeans for getting stuck in, you’ll want to choose a pair that has the right amount of stretch… and a high waist is vital!

Use eco-friendly cleaning products

Swap your old cleaning products for eco-friendly ones – or make your own. Many household brands contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment and to your skin. By using eco-friendly products, you can help limit exposure to harmful chemicals. If you’re really committed to your green journey, you can make your own cleaning products using everyday items. Bicarbonate of soda, lemons, essential oils, and white vinegar are the main ingredients you’ll need for your own range of cleaning products.

Travel sustainably

Where possible, ditch your car and opt for public transport or head out on your bike. Our Damart Sport range is the perfect collection for you to start travelling sustainably. Using our innovative Climatyl fabric, you’ll keep cool while looking and feeling great.

Of course, we wouldn’t expect anyone to ditch their holidays, but air travel contributes massively to climate change. When you do go on holiday, choose locally owned hotels and restaurants that serve local, organic and seasonal food. Try to shop with eco-friendly businesses – you’ll be helping the planet and the local community at the same time.
