How to keep cool in hot weather

There are several ways you can keep cool in hot weather, from staying hydrated to wearing the right clothing. Discover our top tips to feel comfortable and confident this summer.

1. Wear loose clothing

Loose-fitting clothing is best in summer, as it allows ventilation and won’t cling to your body. Whether skirts, maxi dresses, blouses or T-shirts, we have plenty of airy styles available at Damart. Add a pair of sandals and a wide-brimmed hat to complete your look and keep cool in the heat.

2. Choose breathable fabrics

Climatyl, linen and cotton are the best fabrics in summer thanks to their lightweight, breathable properties. Avoid synthetic fibres, as they tend to trap heat, making you sweat more.

3. Opt for light colours

Light colours like white, beige, and pastels are excellent choices in summer to help you stay cool. Darker shades like brown, navy, grey and black absorb more of the sun’s heat, making you feel hotter.

4. Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated may seem like an obvious tip for keeping cool, but it’s one of the easiest ways to lower your body temperature and prevent overheating. Dehydration can cause night sweats, so drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure a good night’s sleep.

5. Keep out of the sun

If you don’t cope well in the heat, it’s best to stay out of the sun as much as possible. This will help you keep cool, prevent dehydration and reduce the risk of hot flushes. When you’re outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat and long, loose-fitting clothing, along with plenty of sun cream.

In addition to the weather, menopause can cause hot flushes due to changing hormone levels. These can change more drastically at night, causing unpleasant night sweats. However, staying hydrated and wearing loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics can help ease your symptoms and keep you comfortable.
